Angela Summerfield is exhibiting several of her oil paintings for sale, as part of the exhibition ‘Your Place’, a celebration of 60 years of the North York Moors National Park.

The Fine Art-trained oil painter, Angela Summerfield, annually returns to her roots for inspiration. Now living in London, Angela regularly visits North Yorkshire to capture the unique light and colour of the county. She always chooses locations which offer easy access to rights of way up on to the North Yorkshire Moors: Sneaton (outside Whitby), Osmotherly, Great Ayton and Ingleby Greenhow. As Angela explains “In order to be a true painter of the land you have to experience it, capture the physical experience of the terrain, as well the sights, sounds (think of the wind and rain!) smell (such as the sweet-honey scent of yellow gorse) and even taste (bilberry picking is something unique to Yorkshire!)”. Angela is a great colourist, and back in her large loft-style studio in London, next to the famous Thames Barrier, she studies her sketches, drawings and notes alongside her personal creation of complex oil paint colour charts. In her final paintings, Angela aims to distil her authentic experiences of the North Yorkshire Moors into carefully thought out landscapes of living colour and light.
